    Changing Backing Fabric

I made a t-shirt quilt for my niece and it is completely finished. T-shirts on the front and back. Now she is not happy with the quiilt backing and border fabric. What do you do? Would it make sense to suggest she personalize the fabric with fabric markers? She's very talented and she could make it hers. I'm am just heartbroken and not sure what to do. Any suggestions welcome!

Well, that got my hackles up!! You didn't do a dang thing wrong and shouldn't fix it. If she doesn't like it its her problem. People don't realize how much work t-shirts are to make. i'm sorry for the rant.

      Sharon and Hummerlou,
I stopped myself from ‘ranting’ also. I think that if that niece is creative,,,,, she should be able to figure out what she might want to do to change it up. Too bad she didn’t just ‘do it herself’ in the first place. Sometimes, people don’t value other people’s time and work. Ok, so I guess this is a bit of a rant also, but Hummerlou,,,, you shouldn’t take on fixing something that ain’t wrong! ! ! ! That’s accepting someone else’s opinion of ‘what you’ve done’ and trying to please this person will probably never happen. I have a typical, although not very soft, answer to someone like this,,, There’s a guy down at the shelter that loves it, I’ll give it to him. OR, the one I’ve used with customers that ask the stupidest questions, and they are aware of how stupid it is (different if they really don’t know),,,,, That’s an interesting question, AND then I turn and walk away letting them figure out what “they” will do with their ???
I know this is rather strong, but I guess some of us have been put through the wringer with this kind of behavior and it’s time we speak up and stop getting walked on. NO ONE is going to send me back to do something that doesn’t need to be redone ! !

Thank you so very much Ladies!! I am not a beginner quilter and I knew there wasn't much I could do. However, thank you for your comments, they really help. Hopefully, I will be able to convince her to personalize the quilt with fabric paints/markers or something so she will be happy. She was also upset because I quoted her $375 for the quilt, which you know doesn't cover my time and supplies. O well, I'm not going to back down.

Thank you both for your comments. They mean a lot to me. I'm trying to post the front/back of the quilt, but for some reason, I can only get the back to show up. Anyway, I'm really proud of the quilt and my longarm quilter did a beautiful job.

That happened to me too. I mentioned to one friend of the recipient, who had contributed a block, that that recipient didn't like it. A few days later I got an apology.

                          Just a suggestion...

It's the front that she is going to see , so what is her problem???
It's a beautiful quilt and the colours are gorgeous.
                            Well done Hummerlou.

Sorry to hear that your niece didn't like it. Was it a gift? Personally, I really like the colors and I think that your quilt is very well made. But I think that it's totally fine to suggest your niece to customize it with markers or acrylics if she wish so.
