Do you draw the quilt pattern on the quilt all

    Hi there,
Small question, I learned from Sharon Schamber to draw the quilt pattern with inexpensive pencil so it is easy to get rid of.
My question is do I need to draw the pattern on ALL OVER the quilt or only on the area that I am busy with?

As usual, it depends. First, always test your pencil to make sure it will come off when you are finished. A pencil that comes off on one fabric, may not come off on another.

The easiest time to mark a quilt is before it is sandwiched, so if you know what you will be quilting then you should mark the whole quilt. Of course, it would be a waste of time to mark the whole quilt if you are using something that will come off before you are finished, like air-erasable marker or chalk. Then you should mark as you go. I usually don't decide what I'm quilting ahead of time so I generally mark as I go.

I used blue chalk on a quilt, and didn't brush it off right away. Now I have blue marks....so if you are using colored chalk, mark as you go and brush it off right away.

I was told by a tailor never to use the coloured chalks on the face of the fabric (right side) because the colour pigments don't (always) come off. And in tailoring, when using £40 per metre cloth, you just don't run the risk....

I dont use chalk, but simple pencil (the one that you refile it every time). I discovered that I brush the top with heavy starch and then I draw what I need, actually the pencil is on the starch not on the fabric.
The mistake that I did is that I forgot to mark the quilt before sandwitching, next time better.
thank you all for the advice.
