How do you attach prairie points to a binding?

I just checked two quilts my mother made for my girls years ago -- so they've been washed numerous
times -- and she didn't use a binding. She just attached the points to the top, turned the
points to the outside and hand-stitched the backing to the back side of the points. These quilts were
used on the girls' beds until they left home; while they are showing some wear, the prairie point edges
are fine.

If your quilt isn't too big how about if you sew the back on right sides together with the prairie points in the seam also, leaving an opening to turn it right side out? It's not a binding but it would get your prairie points facing out on the edge.Lyndhurst, Ohio USA - East Side Suburb of Cleveland, Ohio

I think this is what I will have to do Karen. I had already attached the binding to the piece that I hoped to add prairie points to so I will just have to make another one. I am making a small wall-hanging for each of the members of my family for Christmas, hopefully. I just wanted to elongate them with some dangly bits like prairie points and beads. I will post a photo when I finally get one done.

Yep! Did a tester already. It would work. Meanwhile, Nancy (gmhowl) sent me an article from Quilters Newsletter showing how to do it with a binding so I am going to try that too. I really appreciate everybody's input. You have no idea how much being a member of TQS has revolutionized my quilt life. I would not know where to begin or who to have asked this question here in Ireland. The internet is a wonderful learning tool. Thanks everybody for sharing your knowledge.

Rita, (am I too late, you already have your solution?)
In the book "Stitched Raw Edge Appliqué" by Sue Nickels and Pat Holly, in the "Finished edge" section, there are instructions to add looping to binding strips, but it could very well be replaced by prairie points. I do not want to scan the whole section, but here is a picture of the general idea:
the Prairie points could be "enclosed" between 2 layers of binding (for each of the front and back).

What a great tutorial, Nancy! That double binding and ruffle really makes quite the elegant finish for a simple quilt. I've bookmarked that one.
After Rita mentioned a Craftsy class on bindings, I looked for it a few days ago and found one by Mimi Dietrich, the queen of edges and bindings. Wow, her books go waaaay back. The class was on sale for $19.00 so of course, I had to take a look. She makes binding so clear, simple and neat and presents lots of techniques.
