    High loft batting

I wanting a higher loft batting to make some quilt features stand out more.
Specifically by outlining around details with transparent thread.
Definitely want to avoid polyester batting, as past experience with this caused bearding.
Does anyone have any suggestions on brand or type of batting to use?
    Thanks

Try a layer of wool batting over a layer of 80/20 blend or Quilters Dream cotton Select wt.
    Should give lots of loft.

Thanks ladies. Since I've never worked with wool batting, I'm wondering if I should pre-shrink and if so how?
Also do you need to spray baste the two layers of batting together?

Read the package instructions for the batting you decide to use to see how much they say the batting will shrink.
You might want to make a sample before using it on your whole project to know ahead of time how it will behave.
I don't ever baste the two layers together.

If the wool batting is lumpy and uneven out of the package, a steaming with an iron straightens it right out.

But don't put that hot iron directly on it...use a press cloth! Don't ask how I know that one !!!

Sorry, Marilyn, I was thinking more than I wrote. I just hold the steaming iron above the bat.

Quilters Dream wool is a dream to quilt! It doesn't need preshrinking and it's lofty yet lightweight. Do not baste batting layers if you use it on top of another batting such as a cotton or poly.

Why would you not wash the wool batting Marilyn it would be sure to shrink?

You would need to be careful not to end up with felt.

Wendy, the Wool battings sold in the US by the two major brands, Quilters Dream and Hobbs, are preshrunk. No need to prewash!
