    Linen Quilts

Hi, I m making a wallhanging that uses both cotton and linen fabrics. Does anyone have advice on what seam alowance would be best as the linen does unravel a bit? Also any hints on what batting and quilting thread is best to use. Thanks Janmcf

Cindy Needham is the expert for using linen in quilts, she is the guest in one of the early shows (series 2?)
as for seam allowances I would go up to either 3/8" or if it is particularly good at throwing itself undone 1/2". Starching it may help prevent it from unravelling too, whilst you work on it.

      HI Rosemary,
Thank you for your response. I will try out the half inch and see if the fabric responds. Also, I hd not thought of using starch. This will make the fabric easier to handle. Regards Jan

I made a Chuppa (Canopy)for my daughters wedding and used linen and silk duponi. I serged off all the edges and starched to stabilize both the the linen and silk. I did not have any problems. Hope this helps. Patti

          Hi Patti,
It looks as though starching is the way to go. I will give it a try.
