Threads
Hi to all,
I have a question about threads. I was talking to one of the guild members and she was saying she uses serging threads for bobbin thread.
I had always heard it was to light weight and would break to easy.
Would love to hear everyones thoughts on the subject. I have a lot of serving thread and if I could use it in my bobbins it would be a great way
to use up all that thread.

Serger thread is designed to be used with 3-5 threads working together to make a strong seam.
If you do want to use it in your bobbins, you might want to just do a "pull" test to see how strong it is.
Sew a seam across the bias of a couple of squares of your fabric with regular thread (top and bottom).
Give it a good tug on the bias and see how much strength it takes to break the threads.
Do the same thing with 2 threads of serger thread, then try it with your regular thread in the top and serger thread in the bobbin.
That should give you an idea of whether or not you want to use it in your sewing projects.

Guilty as charged - I use serger threads for putting together my quilt top 'Too loud', and when I have finished it I might know how it wears, but it stitches up fine, and I definitly don't worry about running out of the the same colour thread. I have also used them for garment alterations when they were the best match in my collection, and had no problems with them at all to date. I say 'try it and see how you & your machine gets on with it'.

I know a lot of people are down on using serger thread for quilting but I have used it several times. I used it on one quilt about 10 years ago. That quilt has been washed many times and is used a lot and there's not one thread break on it. In that particular quilt I used it in the top and bobbin!
