Rosemary,
Windows xp has print screen too. I haven't used mine in some time but you can google it and maybe it will tell you how. I am using Mac now and there is so much more it does than I know. I am probably using about 59% of the features. Margo uses her features to the Max and we are all so appreciative.

I played with Photoscape after I printed Margo's instructions. Thanks for opening a whole new world that has been hiding under my finger tips. Now I'll have to play with Window XP for that print screen feature. I came on this morning to check what was going on in the quilting world and it's the computer world that has been enriched. Thanks all.

My MIL has Windows 7, next time we visit I will have to try and have a look-see at her Paint program
Thanks for the help everyone.

print screen programs - i like both:
greenshot: http://getgreenshot.org/ freeware / open source
and
snagit: http://snagit.en.softonic.com/
both are screen capturing tools - greenshot is probably a bit easier - but snagit probably has more possibilities (i have snagit 10 - which is a purchase version - don't know the exact capabilities of the freeware version)
i have one at the office and the other at home...

the great thing about greenshot (or snagit) is that i can press the Print Screen button on my keyboard - and then select the exact part of the screen that i want to copy using my mouse - and can be used for: Win 2000 / Win XP / Windows Vista / Windows 7.
with the standard Print Screen function - you get the whole screen - or if you press the Alt & the Print Screen buttons at the same time, a picture of the program (window) that you are working on at the moment. you then have to copy it into another program (paint, photoshop, word, whatnot... do do anything with it.
with greenshot - when you press the Print Screen button - the mouse turns into a plus signe with lines flowing to all four sides - you can then move the mouse (this plus) to the top right / top left / bottom right / bottom left of the part on the screen you want a shot of - click and hold the left (standard) mouse key - move the mouse to the opposite end of the part of the screen you want shot - let go - and the picture opens in the Greenshot image editor where you can edit the picture (write in it, draw lines and things, cut pieces, etc, etc) and of course save it as .jpg, .png, .gif or .bmp file (snag-it gives you more options), print, copy to clipboard, attach to e-mail
pretty nifty actually
HAVE JUST FOUND THE SNIPPING TOOL - ALSO AVAILABLE FOR OLDER OPERATING SYSTEMS (is included in Vista and Windows 7 - although I had never noticed it before - have Vista on my home PC and Windows 7 on my new laptop...)

The "Snipping Tool" (which I just learned was already on my Windows 7 computer) is similar to the GreenShot, but not as many functions are available.
Just click on the "Snipping Tool" icon; click and drag a box around the target area; and save as. You can also use a pen, highlighter and eraser on the target area.
Basic stuff, but quick and easy to use.

Margo--Just to show you that I have been playing. The blocks have a long way to go before they are done. Then they need sashings, etc before I will be ready to quilt. Could be quite a while because what you see so far is all hand stitched. Sashings and quilting will be done by machine. Though this is the traditional Dresden Plate design I think of them as Wagon Wheels, hence I am looking at quilting that will give it some motion rather than the usual stitch in the ditch.

I can do screen shots on my Mac and even choose the area I want. I decided to search how when I was reading this forum. Now I have a new tool in my too belt. All because of TQS and its helpful members.

Good for you, Agnes! I know you are planning to add sashing strips, but wondered if you have thought about quilting a design where the blocks join to creating more interest in the background? Of course this wouldn't be as effective if you have some kind of cornerstone design in mind.
