Eileen I'm so sorry you lost your mum recently too, it takes a long time to come to terms with the loss, you never stop missing them but I hope your good memories and family will help you through it.

Geneva, great photo of your grands and your dyed fabrics look luscious! So sorry to learn of your mom's passing. You are a special gal to have cared so well for your mom. Now, you, the care giver, take a break and replenish those parts of your life that were over used and use the parts that were under utilized! Hugs!!!

Eileen, sorry to learn of your mom's passing too! Endings are always hard; but, I hope the fun and happy memories will help both you and Geneva as your hearts heal.

Oh my dear friends! Thank you for your kind words. It's so nice to have a group of friends who are there when we need each other.

Eileen, I'm so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. It is so hard, and I am sending you a warm hug. I was very lucky that I was there when my mom passed. She passed within 12 minutes of my getting there. I'm with you though, they know you are there even when they can't speak. We can feel them and they us. I take comfort in that and hope you can too. And please, this is OUR virtual retreat, right? The happy, sad, funny and complaining are welcome here.

Wendy, no I didn't use the dyed fabrics for the tablerunner. I used my stash for the tablerunner. I found an amazing piece of Jane Sassaman (sp) for the back in my stash also. When it is finished quilting I will show you all. Used only my stash! Yay!

              Hugs and thanks, geneva

Yes, this is a safe place to celebrate, grieve, vent, whatever we need to do.

Thank you all for the kind words, they do help, as I'm sure Geneva will agree.

I've become interested in wool applique lately. Does anyone else do this? Wow, how's that for stream of consciousness? No segue, just jump in.

Geneva and Eileen, I am so sorry to hear that your mothers have passed away! I was there within a few hours of my mother’s passing, but my MIL was “passing” for 5 days. It was such an emotion roller coaster for all. It is a sad blessing, in many cases. Cherish the good memories!

Geneva, I love, love, love, your hand dyed fabrics! Soooooooo beautiful! I’ve gotta try that some day! Just never had the opportunity!

Eileen - I'm so sorry to hear that you mom passed, too! As everyone has said, take comfort in your memories! And take some time to take care of you for a while.

Eileen I've use wool felt and appliqued onto cotton fabric. Free motion quilting on felt is very satisfying and using lovely threads to hand embroider on it is a treat. Just need another project idea to try. I've got some nice pieces of wool felt.

So what have you done. Pics please

This is Tree of Life by Gretchen Gibbons. I took a workshop with her at my guild a while back. It needs a few berries and it'll be finished!

Lovely. I'm off to The Festival of Quilts soon so I'll be on the look out for patterns or a book. A friend just did the Scandinavian bird from this book https://www.amazon.co.uk/Modern-Folk-Embroidery-Contemporary-Projects/dp/1446306291

Geneva, Eileen, I am so sorry to hear of your losses. Mums are so often our greatest supporters and give us the backing and support to go out and be brave in the big wide world. “A person is not gone when there is someone who knows their name”.

In this month’s Today’s Quilter there is a special souvenir Supplement for the 1718 Silk Patchwork Coverlet. I have bought a spare copy to send to anyone not Uk based that is interested to see it. (If more than one of you is interested, it could perhaps be posted on after a read)
