    Paper piecing

At what point in paper piecing do I remove the paper? Before or after sewing blocks together?

    #2
Well, thats a loaded question. I take it out, usually, when completed; however, if the pieces are teensy, tiny, I would take them out sooner than later, i.e. feathered star. I do take the papers out of the seam allowance at I sew that piece together, but just depends. You don't want to take out too much in case you need the lines for further pieces. Try several ways and see what works for you.

If you need to stabilize the piece, like a rounded seam, leave the paper in until that seam in sewn.

Likewise if the fabric edge in on the bias.

I have also found that it is necessary to leave the paper in for the outside of the piece until you have trimmed it.

Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it!
