    Mug rug size

I know there is a Mug Rug exchange going on between members of the forum. I'm sure lots of people put those on the wall instead of using them so I am going to ask here:
What is a practical size for a Mug Rug?
In the past I've made oval embroidered mug rugs but I have made some blocks today that are 8"x 7 1/2" and although they were destined to be made into a table runner I'm not so sure I like them together so thought they could be made into rugs. I'm just not sure if an almost square is good for a mug and a biscuit  HELP please
    TIA
    Marianne
PS my biscuit never reaches the stage of being next to my mug - it is eaten before the kettle has boiled hmy:

My muggies vary from about 6-7" by about 8-9" ish. The proportions vary from definite rectangles to almost square and one hexagon flower. I would suggest no larger than a place mat and not as small as a coaster.

Yes most of them are decorating my sewing room.

Thanks, Rosemary! I think I will make rugs then. I haven't really any more fabric that will go with what I have used in these blocks so I can't add a strip to make them rectangular but if others can make square-ish rugs so can I

Marianne, I make mine similar to Rosemary. When I make the jumbled ones, I usually make them 9 1/2" x 9 1/2" only because that's how big my square ruler is! You want it to be small enough to fit easily in an envelope flatly.

Here is my wall with muggies.

And here is a jumbled one I made my sweet daughter in love. She loves Paris.

Have fun! If you'd like to trade, I'd be happy to trade with you.

Geneva, Rosemary I love your displays of mug rugs. What a great way to celebrate friendship!

Geneva, thank you for your thoughts on size too. I had forgotten about the envelope size. My embroidered ones were regulated by the size of the hoop I had before moving up to an embroidery only machine so they were 5"x7" I will definitely need to keep an eye on that because postage has become so expensive and a most of the ones I have sent in the past has been sent abroad. Thank you too for the offer to exchange - can I come back to you on that one when I have found a formula that works for me? Sadly I haven't got space to display anything around the house I have a loft full of wall quilts and hangings that are used as insulation now. Downsizing comes at a cost.
