    Batting for Baby Quilts.

I live in Australia. I am currently making a baby quilt for my new Granddaughter. I have been given various advice on batting and am confused. I want a safe batting, one that can withstand washing. It does it have to be particularly warm as it will not be used in a cot. Possibly only on a floor or on a bed later on. I just wanted to make one. I feel that the best wadding to use would be a mix of wool and cotton. What would this forum suggest? I am interested in your opinions. Thank you.

    Hi,
    Congratulations on your new granddaughter!
You might consider using Dream Angel by Quilter's Dream. It is flame retardant. If it might be used on the floor, you may want to use the thicker Select weight, or maybe even two layers of batting.

I copied the description for you.
"Dream Angel is made of fibers that are specially engineered to be flame retardant. The fibers are designed not to melt or flow when in contact with flame. The fibers are inherently flame retardant with no chemical additives and no PBDEs. Dream Angel can be machine washed and dried and will not loose the flame retardant quality. Dream Angel was tested by an independent laboratory and meets both international standards and the NEW DRAFT CAL 604.
Dream Angel has a wonderfully natural look and feel. The fibers are needlepunched into a beautiful, soft, cozy batting, very resistant to creasing. No need to prewash! Heavenly for both hand and machine quilting. Confidently stitch up to 6" apart. It drapes beautifully. Finished quilt may be machine washed and dried. "

    Happy quilting,
    Judith

I've used cotton batting for baby quilts with good results. I generally use Warm n Natural, but I think any reputable brand would stand up to washing.
