mini irons

I have tried a couple mini irons.
I had a Hobbico crafters iron, which I really liked . I forgot to turn it off one day and it died. The temperature knob did get hot, but I put one of those little silicone finger protectors on the knob and that worked well. I liked the teflon coated base which prevented fusibles from sticking.
I also tried the Clover mini iron. I didn't care for the little wire base that it is supposed to rest on when hot, but not in use. It seemed unstable to me. I was afraid the iron would accidently fall and land in my lap and burn me. Also, it has no teflon base to keep fusibles and glue from sticking to it.
I also tried the Dritz petite iron. It is digital and has an auto-shut off. It heats more quickly than the Clover mini. It only has 4 temperature settings, but they seem adequate for quilting and fusible applique needs. No teflon base however. I have only tried it a few times though. So far, so good.
I highly recommend the Combo wood mini iron holder with the blue tile. It worked beautifully with my Hobbico craft iron. I use it with the Dritz petite iron now. The weight of the wood base and tile keeps the hot iron secure and in place. I know some folks prop their hot mini iron in a mug to hold it when not in use. I tried that too. I like the heavier, horizontal wood iron holder better. I would be less likely to accidently tip it over.

I have had the Clover mini-iron and that didn't last long and never heated properly. I kept it in a mug because like Judith I felt it was dangereus to keep in the mini stand.
I now use the travel iron I have because although it has a larger sole I find it works just as well for my intricate ironing. It has a teflon sole and can be used as a steam iron too which is handy.
