Really nice pattern on those socks! you're nearly done ! I've always had second sock syndrome
and lately have been doing 2-at-a-time on long cable. That way you're done when you're done !!

I love the look of those socks Renata - is that merino wool? Bet they are real soft too. And Marilyn that is a great idea to knit the two socks at the same time, I never would have thought of that in my knitting days.

Renata, the pattern on that pair of socks is wonderful. I am still just making plain ole socks. Guess I need to look for a pattern like that and try it!

They are merino--I bought a bunch of it in different colors every time there was a huge sale on yarn--40 to 50 percent of--and then made socks like crazy for everyone in the family and friends. Knitting was always a great passion for me, but I'm finding that learning to quilt is like a full-time engagement and I don't seem to have time for much else.

Happy New Year to all! Some of you have already rung in the new year and some are less than an hour away... Italy is two minutes away and here on the east coast of the United States we have six hours to go!

Ritzy, the pattern comes from the book, "Toe-up Socks for Every Body," written by Wendy D. Johnson, who is also the author of "Socks from the Toe Up." If you can knit plain socks, a pattern is just a short step away--you can do it!

And a very happy New Year to you too Renata. We are 1 hour away. We had a lovely family dinner with my parents but they have gone home now (my wonderful DH drove them home 1 1/2 hour round trip) and the two older children have gone out to parties. Just me, DH and DS sitting comfortably with our laptops, having a schnapps, eating some chocolates, relaxing. We would watch television but there is nothing worth watching. Heading up to the top of the hill so that we can watch fireworks over Dublin Bay at midnight. I bought a great new coat today filled with duck feather and down so I look like the Michelin Man in it but I don't care, it's warm. - and that will come in very useful tonight.

Twenty degrees here and no fireworks in Fairfax... we are going nowhere fast tonight... will watch the Waterford ball drop in Times Square on TV tonight. Schnapps, what a great idea, why didn't I think of it? Cheers! (and maybe some in my ristretto tomorrow too... hic

What a beautiful pattern you made on the socks, Renata.
I knit socks also, wear them as my indoor shoes, so I need a lot. I really don't like to knit them, but that doesn't matter, because they are much needed.
Now I'm 11 hours into the year of 2013 and I wish you all a happy, prosperous and healthy New Year

Thanks, Norma. It's funny, everyone I've made socks for has never worn a pair of handmade ones before and they all remark how different and good they feel as opposed to the store-bought ones... and, they're more fun to look at when you peer down! Happy New Year to you too!

Renata, I just saw your sock post. These are so cool.. Maybe I like them because it is so cold here,
but anyway I didnt know people could make socks so do you knit or crochet them? I can not imagine making these....
You must be very talented... They look so warm I am wishing I had a pair I get they feel SOOOOO GOOOOOOD!

Thanks, Bren. These are knitted but there is no reason socks cannot be crocheted. I crochet as well, but have never made socks, however, I've seen them done. Doesn't take talent, just a lot of practice (like anything else) to become proficient. My mom put knitting needles (and crochet hook) in my hands when I was very young so I've been at it for a long time.
