I need a camera for taking pictures of quilts

What would be an inexpensive but optimal camera for taking pics of kids but also be good for taking quilt pictures? Something relatively easy to use. Thanks, Jan

Jan, digital cameras today are all pretty good. If you want pictures of quilts you want something that is capable of decent low light performance so your pics aren't blurry due to low shutter speed. A lot of it is ease of use for *you*. Go to Best Buy or something like that and play with the cameras. If you have trouble holding it steady, or the buttons drive you nuts, then it won't work for you. Most of the consumer digital point and shoot cameras are set up so that you don't have to do any editing in the computer, just download the pics to your computer and enjoy!

Jan.... Go to amazon.com and look at camera's. Great prices and you can read as many reviews as you can stand. Very helpful.
I have bought the Canon PowerShot Elph camera's 4 times. Fits in my pocket and takes good pictures. Camera #1 still works but is many years old and a bit thick for a pocket. Camera #2 updated and very slim but it fell out of my pocket. Camera #3..... I fell in Estonia and guess what hit the ground first..... Camera #4 still in tact. :-)

For really good pictures of quilts, I would recommend you find yourself a small tripod to put whatever camera you get on. It really eliminates camera shake. I actually picked up a mini tripod in one of our 'Poundland' stores for -you've guessed it - £1, a total bargin 8) and to get it to high enough I place it on a steady table to operate.

I just bought a Canon A1200. The main reason that I bought it is because it has a viewfinder. It is the only compact camera that I could find that has one. If you are going to be taking pictures outside in the sun, it can be hard to see the screen on the back of the camera. It's just something to think about.

WAIT untill after the holidays if possible.... early in Winter there is the big electronic show in Vegas where all the new stuff is introduced.... What this means is discounts on older models or if you want the LATEST AND GREATEST ... you should be able to find what you want. Last BIG feature was YOU TUBE cameras that take pictures / videos that can be posted in You tube without convergence of files.

Great if you have kids/ grandkids or want to post a tutorial.

Thank you all. I'll wait til after Christmas. My daughter has a coolpix camera I can use to take family pictures. I have teenagers and wish I got a camera and used it when they were young. Merry Christmas. Jan
