      Amanda you make me laugh

The manual for your 730 embroidery module is in back of your Bernina owner's manual. If you have software, most of the documentation is in the help file. Did you load your Artista Editor into your computer?

Busy, we understand! I hope you are having a great holiday.

OK, have just gone through the whole Editor Lite V4 not working with Vista thing. This machine I bought in May, not even 8 months and it's not compatable. I guess Bernina are on yet another money spinner again (and I don't believe in the Microsoft problem, everything else has had a patch if it's not compatable, Vista is hardly the new kid on the block now).

I have since dusted off an old laptop with XP on it to run the thing on but the CD driver is defunct. Now waiting on a delivery of external drive to run the CD.

I could understand if the machine and software were a few years old but they're not!! If I went to a shop tomorrow and bought a 730, what software would come with it??

Very, very peed off in UK! (I an now going to put the roast in the oven, open a bottle of wine and sit and read through JoJo's web site!)

Amanda, I don't have Vista, but in the back of my head, I remember people talking about a patch. Is your dealer any help? How about Bernina technical assistance? There is a Yahoo groups for Artista that may have some information as well.

Hi Susan! The wine is working and I'm glad I've put everything away, or it might learn to fly out of the window.  I've looked all over on line and can not actually find a patch at the moment.

I will be phoning Bernina UK tomorrow, but I won't be holding my breath. The UK website is dire compared to the US one. A bit like a one page leaflet compared to War and Peace. I can't join the US website as I don't have a valid US address to put in and they don't seem to have other countries covered, hence we have the pretty useless UK site instead. Circles, circles!!!

Anyway, something will out in the end. We'll see what they say tomorrow. Hopefully enough people have complaned over here that they might have the answer.

              Amanda,
I just picked up my 730E last thursday during the storm. It was in custom's for a week.In washington d.c. Finally have it in my studio.
My new laptop had vista which did not work with Bernina. So I had the Windows7 installed. That was not too compatable so I went for the Professionl Windows7.

Finally everything is in place am I am going to try to get something accomplished besides shoveling the snow outside. We had a lot of snow this weekend. About 6-8 inches.

Did you get a dongle with your 730? I did not but still have the one from the 440QE that I forgot to turn in.

It looks like you don't need the dongle for the 730? Who knows?

Hi Norina, which version of Editor came with your 730? I have a dongle, but it's a white one and the box that did manage to come up on the screen asked for me to insert a blue one. Not sure if the same stuff is on them or if I have a different version of that too.

                  Hi Amanda
You have Editor Lite by the looks of it, it comes with a white dongle. Now, I had that with my 440, it was loaded onto my laptop running xp and it worked. Then I upgraded to Editor Plus, that comes with blue dongle, the software will NOT work without it. I am running Vista and it works on my machine.

you can register on the usa site and go to support, they have downloads for all sorts of problems, so dont worry about it not being uk. Now, I have 630 not 730, but they should still work the same as 730 not new model. let me know what you did!

Hi Amanda, OK what I have is the blue dongle from the 440QE. And the CD's are: Artista 200/730 Sewing and embroidery basics (CD1) and (CD2) New, fascinating features. Instructional Presentation. Also another disk: Embroidery Software - Artlink - Version 5.
I am going to take these to work tommorow and play with them. My job lets me do that as long as I keep the clients and my boss happy.

I do get a lot of computer work done during the day which is why I love this job.

I have to temember to go to the class I signed up for at the quilters university.

So did you get the dingle with the new machine? Do I have to call up and say: where is my white dingle? :?

the colour of the dongle is dependant on the version of software you have not the machine. The version normally bundled with machines is generally Editor Lite, very simple, not many features and you have to link up to the computer with you machine to use, not send and disconnect! Editor Plus is the next one up retails around £499 and has quite a lot of features (one I have!) blue dongle with that one! Top of tyhe range is Designer Plus, around £1000, load of features!!!! On my wish list! wink:

Thanks for the information. Now, Designer Plus, do you get a color dongle?

Oh, so much information to learn, great to have all these friends to learn from..nice group hug

I was just thinking about my idea of a BOM for Machine Embrodiered quilts. Because of the various machines, software, levels of experence with the software and machines, and then the designs themselves, I thought that perhaps, instead of a BOM that everyone would be working on, we could each come up with something we want to work on, from the designs we already own, or want to purchase, and get help from one another on how to accomplish things. This way, we can select something to match our level of experience, and perhaps learn something along the way.

I don't know if there is any ONE person that would know all about all the different software available, or the levels of software. Then also about all the different embroidery machines that are available. Plus, I think we may each have a different idea of what it is we want to learn and create as a BOM.

As an example, I have been toying with the idea of making a quilt from Jenny Haskins, that has been out for awhile, and I don't know if the magazine that has the instructions is even still available. So if others don't already have that, then they may not be able to purchase it to work on that same quilt. However, if I did start to make that quilt, and ran into some problems, I could come here to ask for help and hopefully someone will be able to assist me, even if we are using different software or machines. It might be possible to figure out what someone is talking about in our own software and machines to get us through our difficulties. I would think the basic ideas of what to do, no matter what designs/software/machine combination someone has would work with any combination, or we could find a way to work around any limitations that someone may have because of their combination.

I know enough about my machine (Brother Quattro) and software (Embird) to do pretty much anything I want to right now. But my problem comes with taking designs and combining them to create a quilt block, and then getting everything lined up correctly in the hoop to sew out. I would need help with ideas of how to combine different designs, and then different ways to get everything sewn out properly.

Also, if I think about doing an entire Machine Embroidered quilt all at once, it just seems to be too overwhelming. But if I can break it down into one block a month, or even every other month (life always seems to get in the way as well as other quilt projects) then it may not be so daunting a task. But at the same time, if it takes me too long to work on things, then I lose interest, so I would need something to keep me motivated to work on it. So I thought some kind of support system through these boards would help.

                              What do you all think??

I know it's the Lite but it's version 4. Thanks for the link Susan, I had found those but they don't supply a solution. The Rub is...

BERNINA artista Embroidery Software V4.0, V3.0, V2.0 or V1.0 (Customizer, Editor Lite, Editor, Auto-Designer, Designer, Designer Plus) -Unfortunately, BERNINA artista 4.0 and earlier versions are NOT supported on Windows Vista or Windows 7.
Due to this, we will not be able to troubleshoot or assist with getting any earlier version to work on Windows Vista. All users of earlier versions that wish to use Vista will need to update to BERNINA Embroidery Software v5.0 in order for it to be supported and work.

Why was I sold a version that is not compatible with the mainstream operating systems? Would you buy a computer with Windows 2000 still running it? Like I said, I would understand if I had bought the machine a couple of years ago, but it's still new. I will be contacting Bernina UK later, I don't think it will get me anywhere though. I will put the disk into the old laptop with the XP on it and run it that way. After spending £3000 you would have thought it would be with the current version.

I've just been looking for another machine to take to classes rather than the 730, there's a strong possibility it won't be a Bernina!
